Uses of Lavender Oil

Lavender Oil:

Lavender essential oil has many medicinal values and is used for the treatment of many health problems. Lavender oil is regularly used in aromatherapy as a pain reliever. Let us see some advantages of lavender oil for adults and children.

Lavender Oil for Adults:

Lavender oil helps in relieving pain and with the mixture of other carrier oils it is used for massage. Lavender oil helps in muscle relaxation and relief of joint. It can be used in mixtures for asthma and bronchitis.

This oil is also used for restlessness, nervousness, and depression. Inhalation of lavender aroma will help in relief from insomnia, agitation etc.

Massaging a few drops of this oil in the lower abdomen or applying a hot press on to the abdomen will help to get relief from menstrual cramps for ladies. It also helps to relieve sunburn.

Lavender oil removes fatigue and helps in relaxation since it enters the bloodstream quickly when compared to other oils.

Add a couple of drops of lavender oil to your facial toner or cream to help improve acne.  Lavender is said to deter bacteria that cause skin infections and help balance the over-secretion of sebum.

When applied onto wounds it helps to stop infection and helps in scar free healing. Lavender oil can be mixed with lemon balm to provide anti-viral properties. 

Bathing with lavender oil mixed with hot water soak away tension and stress. Lavender oil mixed with a plain cream sold by a chemist will acts as a good moisturizer or a cleanser.

To help soothe sunburn try adding a few drops of lavender oil to distilled water in a spray bottle and spray onto sunburned skin for a quick relief.

Lavender Oil for Children:

For children with a fever, sponge lavender oil with luke-warm water over the forehead and body to reduce fever and bring down the temperature.

Massaging children with lavender oil helps to promote a good night’s sleep. You can also add a couple of drops of essential oil into a warm bath to help your child to relax before bed time.

Applying lavender oil over the child's body is a good mosquito repellent. This oil is a good remedy for insect bites, stings and itching. A few drops of lavender oil over the child's pillow will help prevent insect bites.

It can be used for children's minor cuts. Lavender oil helps in fast healing reducing any scarring.

Lavender oil used in a vaporizer can be used for the treatment of a respiratory infection and to get relief from cold and coughs in children.

For generally creating a restful time why not give your child a good quality aromatic play dough with lavender essential oil in it to help relaxation - ideal before bedtime.

Other Uses of Lavender Oil:

Lavender is used as a fragrance ingredient for soaps, scents, cosmetics, cleaning products etc.. Lavender oil is used in cooking such as cakes and biscuits for its own flavour. Smelling salts can be prepared using lavender oil, peppermint oil and basil oil. Lavender oil is also used for the treatment of head lice.

Ensure you have some aroma play-dough with lavender essential oils in it available in your home, ready for using either creatively or just as a good old stress ball – it is a great way to give your child the benefits of lavender in a fun way. It also works for adults so when you are feeling stressed out just get out the aroma play-dough!
