Aphrodisiac Recipes - for when the time is right

There are many wonderful recipes in aromatherapy - many as old as time, and none more so desirable than those to attract the opposite sex. The Egyptians used aromatherapy in both their embalming procedures and cosmetics, whilst Cleopatra certainly knew it's power when she soaked the sails of her sailing ship in perfume to entice Mark Anthony back to Egypt!

The aroma of essential oils can vary from the somewhat unpleasant to the positively seductively sensual. As always essential oils and their perfumes are a purely personal one, so it is pointless trying to seduce someone with a reputedly aphrodisiac oil that your target thinks smells rather like old socks! When planning your next sexual conquest, therefore, try some discreet market research first, before the full scale frontal assault!

A number of oils have been characterised since ancient times as having sensual qualities, although the effect seems to vary tremendously from person to person. But, hey - keep trying different oils until you get the response you're looking for! Suffer in the pursuit of romantic research!

For best effect, the use of aphrodisiac oils is best kept subtle - it's no good adding a good measure of essential oil and having the effect or fumigating man, woman and beast out of the house! Making them ill may get them into bed, but not for the purpose you had in mind. Try a few drops on an oil burner to magically scent the room, or a few drops left on a piece of material and left on a radiator.

Cooking with essential oils is not recommended - heating destroys the chemical properties and will render the food bitter and horrid rather than sensual. Stick to the tried and trusted champagne and oysters.

Classic Aphrodisiacs:

For Her - Floral Jasmine
Rose
Ylang Ylang
Geranium
(interestingly a lot of these are also linked to hormone / menstrual / emotional relief)
For Him - Woody Sandalwood Cedarwood
Spicy for Red Hot Lovers Clove
Basil
Cinnamon
Patchouli
Others - if desperate Clary Sage Neroli

The Antidote

Are you a subject of unwanted passion? Tired and just want a good night's sleep rather than a swing from the chandelier?

If your target has turned into a towering inferno of unbridled lust, but you have suddenly developed a bad case of the thumping heads, a fast and effective remedy is called for. So try the hero of the moment - Marjoram. This oil is classified as an anaphrodisiac - mainly because it promotes rapid sleep!!

A Romance Blend Recipe

Good for a scent ring, diffuser, or aroma lamp. Add 5-6 drops on a scent ring, or 8-12 on a diffuser.

Try: 20 drops Rosewood oil, 10 drops Neroli oil, 5 drops Lavender oil, 5 drops Thyme oil and 3 drops of Cinnamon or Clove oil. Gently rock the oils to mix them together and store in a clean, dark glass bottle, out of the sunlight and store in a cool place.
